Product Review - Weleda Wild Rose Natural Deodorant

weleda wild rose deodorantCall me shallow but it's the stuff dreams are made of...being shown a box of delectable eco-girlie goodies and being told to ‘Help yourself, they are samples, then write a review on them.'

Now my own green girlie journey has consisted of the transistion to many eco-products - hemp oil and henna to name but a life-changing couple - but I had struggled with the whole deodorant thing. I appreciate anti-perspirants are full of nasties and stop your body sweating but I'm a girl and I really don't like sweating. I'm a school secretary by day and sweaty, wafty armpits really aren't pleasant. For anyone.

But I had tried crystal deodorants (OK, but still sweaty) which need damping down under a tap before applying, roll-on crystal deodorants (again, still sweaty) and roll-on ‘natural' deodorants (no aluminium, but I wasn't sure exactly how ‘natural' they were) and the fragrance was overpowering and quite unpleasant.

So, I pounced on the Weleda spray deodorant in its shiny pink box (I told you I was shallow) like a woman possessed.

Firstly...the smell. Rose, neroli and ylang ylang. I'm not overly sure what neroli is supposed to smell like and being a bit of a ylang ylang junkie, I couldn't really notice it, but what I did get was a lovely waft of antique rose. Think ‘Victorian walled garden, full of wild climbing roses' fragrance...under your arms. Lovely.

I still sweated though but I really think that this is something I am going to have to accept. I'm not used to it, but weighing up the alternatives, sweating is a lot better than any chemical-induced diseases, caused by the godawful nasties in anti-perspirants.

But what was good this time was that I got wafts of Warm Rose when I was hot. A vast improvement, believe me. And because this came as a spray, I could re-apply it if I needed an extra boost of Rosiness. I would have liked a small version to pop in my handbag, but a freebie is a freebie!! But after doing the most basic of product research, I see there is a travel size version (30ml)...something for my Christmas List.

Cost wise it is a little under £8 for 100ml. Personally I tended to use too much as I like the smell so how long it lasts depends on how sparing, or indeed how sweaty, you are.

So all in all, Weleda Wild Rose Natural deodorant is definitely the best natural deodorant I have tried so far.
