Join us to ‘Shout about' climate change

beyton middle schoolDo you want to help change the world? You, your school and your local community can - together.

Shout about is Friends of the Earth's annual activity project for 11-13 year olds, designed to help young people take positive action on environmental issues.

Shout about 2009 is all about solutions to climate change - supporting the major cuts in carbon emissions required by the Climate Change Act, which became law on 26th November 2008.

Friends of the Earth's Youth and Education coordinator Vicki Felgate said:

"The Climate Change Act commits the UK to cutting our carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 - this means we all need to reduce our emissions. This year's Shout about activity week looks at what young people can do to reduce their own carbon footprint and how they can influence change within their school and community.

"Each year we get great feedback from young people who have taken part in Shout about - we're really keen to get as many people as possible involved in this year's activity week."

The activity week will run from 2-6 March 2009. If you and your friends want to take part, ask your teacher or youth leader to sign up for our free activity pack - full of information and exciting ideas for projects, including:

· performing plays about the environment
· energy surveys
· building 3-D models of a climate-friendly community.

"It's a fun way of learning about climate change, because instead of just telling everyone about it, we are doing activities which they can be part of." said 14 year-old Aniqa.
