From the Editor...

The theme of this month's newsletter is the power of Community and what we can achieve if we all work together. One solitary voice is very quiet and can get drowned out, but a whole chorus of voices all saying the same thing...suddenly they are heard and can make a difference. People often ask me, what possible good could them turning off their TV or not filling their kettle do. Well, on a global scale, one person probably won't save the planet , but if everybody did it, then think of the difference that would make!! So our articles this month reflect the effect that working together as a community can have. And it is no coincidence that this month's green quote is from Margaret Mead - she says it a lot more succinctly than I do!

Exciting news on the Big Green Bus! Our first event of 2009 is on the 28th March, which is the final day of  Exeter's Big Switch Off fortnight. Brigit and the Bus will be in the city centre in Bedford Square, 10.00am to 4.00pm, packing in loads of info on energy saving, along with several experts to answer all your questions. Dick Strawbridge is giving a talk on green alternative energy and there will be lots of freebies including low energy lightbulbs from Megaman and water saving devices from South West Water. It's a particularly relevant day to be doing this as it coincides with the Earth Hour campaign the same evening. Click here to find out more about the bus in Exeter.

  Green Tip of the Month

Alison Trelfer from Dover emailed to say 'the waxy paper from inside cereal packets can be placed between drawings or important papers to protect them, or cut into circles to top homemade jam. It can also be used as a strong wrapping paper over coloured tissue'

Website of the Month Positive News

Positive News is a quarterly international newspaper, founded in 1993 by Shauna Crockett Burrows. The publication focuses on issues rarely covered by the mainstream media and promotes the many individuals and enterprises that are working to create a more healthy, humane and environmentally sustainable world.

Positive News also tries to give a voice to all those small, determined fishes swimming against the tides of big corporate seas and award them for their efforts through honest, impartial media publicity. A place where young and old feel safe to tell their stories without fear of indifference or misrepresentation.

A regular youth section invites young journalists and entrepreneurs, schools, colleges, universities and community groups to publicise their events, projects and achievements to other young readers across the globe. The underlying aim is to inform, inspire and change the world.
