Coleg Menai Art students create 'Green' workshops for children !
Over the past weeks Coleg Menai Art students have been working on a brief - to create an interactive workshop to promote sustainability and green issues to young children.
As part of the project, first year National Diploma Art and Design students were asked to come up with ideas for a creative workshop for children of Primary school age. The workshop must use recycled or reused materials only (apart from essentials such as scissors etc) and an original and usable end product must be produced along with a designed factsheet.
The brief concluded this week when Brigit Strawbridge of BBC2s ‘It's Not Easy Being Green' and founder of the charity The Big Green Idea came to the college's Parc Menai site to choose the winning project.
Tutor Salena Walker said: "The students have all worked enthusiastically on this project and it's great that Brigit has come to the college to listen to their ideas as a sustainability expert and green celebrity! The winning workshop idea will be used by The Big Green Idea on their bus which travels the country informing people of sustainability and green issues."
Brigit was very impressed with what she saw and said: "Choosing one winning workshop has been very difficult as there are so many fantastic ideas about how to get young children involved in recycling and being creative."
The first prize went to Efa Dyfan (pictured above) with her idea for a workshop where children could create bunting out of old materials and glue.
Joint runners-up were Siân Hughes with her idea of a workshop where children could create mini handbags out of crisp packets and Bethan Geary with her idea for a workshop where children could make brooches out of bottle tops and plastic bags.
