The Intelligence Squared Green Festival on Climate Change - London
Date: Sunday 25 Jan 2009
Time: 11 am to 6:30 pm
Description: A non-profit event to raise awareness and stimulate debate on all aspects of climate change and look at what we can do to tackle the challenges it presents.
A group of sixth formers chosen with the Royal Geographical Society will run the first debate of the day. Chaired by polar explorer Ben Saunders, these students will debate the motion ‘The Devastating Impact of Climate Change Can No Longer Be Prevented'.
Then the global warming experts will take over. Nobel Prize laureate Mohan Munasinghe, Professor Robert Watson - DEFRA's Chief Scientific Advisor, Christine Loh - one of TIME magazine's ‘Heroes of the Environment'; Stanley Johnson - UN environmental ambassador (and father of Boris) and Tony Juniper, Special Advisor to the Prince's Rainforests Trust are just some of speakers involved. ‘How Long Have We Got?', ‘Do China and India Hold the World in their Hands?', Is Technological Innovation Our Only Hope?' and 'The UK Political Parties Don't Mean What They Say on Climate Change' are some of the subjects that will be discussed.
And there's plenty of fun to be had outside the debating rooms: check out award-winning climate change photos by the Prix Pictet, test drive an electric car, investigate a solar home, and win green prizes worth hundreds of pounds.
Tickets for individual sessions cost £10.00 or £15.00 or you can buy a day pass for £50. Buy tickets and learn more at the festival website.
