Soggy Exeter Green Fair!
BGI member Anne-Christine was at the Exeter Green Fair which took place Saturday 6th September...
'Exeter Green Fair, organised by Exeter Green Party, is now an established event. Every year, the Bishop of Exeter allows the fair to take place within his walled private gardens by the Cathedral . The gardens themselves make the fair worth a visit, though the activities on offer at the fair are so varied that everyone will find something to interest them.
At last Saturday's fair, most green or social organisations of the area were represented, even if there were some obvious no shows, maybe because of the poor weather conditions.
I was helping a local organisation called EasyGreen with a workshop using recycled goods. We make puppets, masks, frilly flowers (out of plastic bags), beautiful wind/heat propelled aluminium mini turbines out of aluminium cans, etc etc... This is the funniest, most relaxing activity ever. Just try huddling under a gazebo, around a foldable table, with some of your friends, not forgetting all kinds of colourful things from your recycling bin... and let the fun times roll!
I met EasyGreen's crazy bunch at last year's fair and have kept in touch as their ethos is close to The Big Green Idea's and their hearts are THAT big.
This year saw Low Carbon Exeter as the main guest. Low Carbon Exeter leads the smallest city in the UK's Transition Town movement. The Big Green Idea is well aware of the importance of the Transition Town movement.
The only thing the event would have benefited from is a kinder climate. What irony!'
