Rachel visits the Bus at Loughborough
The Big Green Bus in Action!
Yesterday I was lucky enough to go along with my husband and daughter to the Centenary celebrations at Loughborough University, where Brigit and the Big Green Bus were one of the main attractions!
When I walked around the corner and first saw this amazing, beautifully painted vehicle sitting there gleaming in the sunshine I was completely overwhelmed - I have been ‘involved' in the project in a very hands-off way right from the start, but seeing the bus ‘in the flesh' for the first time totally blew me away. It seemed to me that what I was looking at was no longer just a bus, but some kind of fantastic, organic creature with bags of personality and a really welcoming feel.
Brigit was as lovely, friendly and lively as ever, and as she proudly showed us each special feature of the bus, her enthusiasm and passion just shone through. She is a natural educator who teaches by sheer example, and she has carefully thought through every single aspect of the bus to ensure that hundreds of aspects of sustainable living are showcased in an interesting and accessible way.
We spent several hours at the event, and every time we walked past the bus it was surrounded by people who seemed to be captivated by the sheer magic of the Big Green Idea. I am convinced that every single one of them will have gone away having learned something new, or been inspired to make some kind of change to enable them to live a greener lifestyle.
Seeing the bus in action was a complete joy - do go along and have a look if you ever have the chance - and if you can do anything to support the BGI I really believe that you will be helping a very special person to make a real difference!
