Only 4 days to go ...
Only another 4 days to go now till our first outing with the bus and it feels like we're doing one of those 'changing room' programmes you see on TV: all hands on deck, working against the clock, me deciding I don't like the colour of the moulded plastic seats and dashing out to buy more paint to make them look better ... it actually seems like we're going backwards, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that's just an illusion.
I've started putting together the books and magazines for the library this afternoon and have packed up all the real nappies and other lovely things we've got for the ‘green parenting' area. I've collected some worms from a local worm farm so that my son, James, can show the children at the school who are hosting the event how a wormery works and I also took a trip out to ‘Wind and Sun' near Leominster to see what they have in the way of educational tools to demonstrate alternative technology to primary school children. I came back with some little solar powered mini turbines and solar powered battery charging kits, so I hope the sun shines at the Big Bradford Green Fair!
Because of our limited budget, I keep having to make decisions about what I add to the bus now and what I will add later when I have more funds. It's been really difficult, but for practical reasons I have invested this week in an awning for the outside area, rather than a TV screen to show DVDs. This decision has been made because someone made us a wonderful pedal powered smoothie maker...and at this stage I'd rather demonstrate pedal power (and drink smoothies) come rain or shine, than show DVDs. The TV screen will follow in the spring when there will be more sunshine to power it anyway.
If anyone reading this would like to donate the TV screen, we'd really quite like a Sony 46" flat screen, with a compatible DVD player (well ... you can't blame a girl for trying!!!).
Things really are very hectic, so I won't get a chance to write again now till after the event this weekend at Bradford-on-Avon.
Wish us luck!!!
