Climate march
I’ve just come back from today’s climate march in London.
The march was an amazing thing to be a part of. There were men, women and children of all ages from all over the UK, including a huge number of people who had never marched before who just wanted their voices to be heard. I have no way of knowing how effective marches like this are, but I’m glad I went because it made a difference to me.
Before the march began, there were a number of speakers in Hyde Park, including some extremely passionate young people who stand to inherit the mess we are leaving behind us - and politicians including John McDonnell whose constituency contains Heathrow where the third runway has been proposed. It was good to hear politicians speaking from the heart about the massive changes we need to make to stand some chance of minimising the effects of climate change. I just hope more add their voices - and that they are heard where it counts.
I think it is incredibly important that as many people as possible make as many changes as possible as soon as possible. I don’t want to be one of those who looks back in a few years time and wishes I had done more before I was forced to.
I am going to step up my efforts now because my eyes are wide open and I see quite clearly the damage we are causing with our excessive addiction to oil and overuse of natural resources. I’ve made a few new pledges to myself today because I know I’m not doing anywhere near enough at the moment.
